Stop dieting - stop today. If you listen to the bosses in charge of the likes of Weight Watchers and Slimming World you will hear them say that their businesses survive on the back of dieting becoming a continuous trap for people. They can only survive because people keep going back as their weight yo-yos. And that's why I'm saying "Stop dieting!"
Before I tell you the relevance of this to business, let me just tell you quickly what my tip is for losing weight. I lost nearly 3 stone, and the way I've done it is all in the mind. You see, one day I decided to tell myself that I was 9st 12lb - I wasn't, I was nearly 3 stone heavier than that. But I realised that if I told myself I was 9st 12lb I would start to make decisions and take actions based on being that weight. You see, someone who is 9st 12lb says no thank you to the cake. Someone who weighs 9st 12lb climbs the stairs and the escalators, and walks with a skip in her step. And someone who is 9st 12lb stops eating when she's full, and doesn't drink much.
Decide today what weight you are, your target weight (talk in the present tense - no stating your weight as what you're going to be, only talk of your target weight as what it is now, today), and start taking the actions of someone who IS that weight. You will find that the mind over matter will result in you taking exercise (it may be small amounts to start with), saying no to the cake, reducing your alcohol intake, and so much more.
And why is this relevant in business? Because so much of what we do is a repeating pattern of behaviour, and we expect to get different result from doing the same thing, time and time and time again!
This week, identify something you are doing that is just not getting you the results you want .... and STOP! Give up on doing that. And begin talking of what you want to change in the context of having already reached your goal, achieved the outcome you want. You'll be surprised at how much easier it is to get the results you want when you allow your mind to take over, and you live in the now of having already achieved your goal.
